Wendy Larson will be speaking about diseases that were prevalent in the 18th and 19th centuries and medicines that people believed would cure them. She will talk about blood letting, leeches, and medicines that had a lot of alcohol (booze) and mercury in them. Men that sold these cures called themselves doctors. Up until the 1920s, a person-in some states needed no certificate or education to call themselves doctor.
